Synopsis
As a former Marine, Danny feels personally responsible for finding the killer of a former U.S. Marine war hero. Someone has leaked false information to the press that Frank is going to run for mayor.
This episode really blew me away. Up until now, each episode has topped the last. Just when you feel like it's reached the height of perfection, it goes and proves you wrong. This episode was no different. From the start of the series, we have seen Danny as the tough detective who won't let anything get in his way. However, this episode showed us a whole different side to him. Seeing him slowly being eaten up by the death of a fellow marine was so sad and the scene where he finally broke was simply heartbreaking. I really felt for Danny as he told Linda about that night in Iraq where a 19 year old man was sent out in his place and ended up being killed. The guilt he felt, the feeling of "It should have been me", really tugged at me and I found myself crying along with them. Beautifully acted by both Donnie & Amy. This was also the first episode where we saw the crime happen and throughout the episode, we knew who the killer was. This added the new element of suspense as we watched Danny and Jackie interrogating Troy Cassidy, however they couldn't put him down for the murder yet. As they got closer and closer to finding the vital evidence, we saw Danny becoming more and more restless, his want for getting Troy beginning to almost cloud his judgment. When they finally found the needed item, I felt relief with them. But when Danny went up to arrest Troy alone, I knew something was going to happen. But, Danny knew that too - he knew Troy would attack him and when he did, it would give him the perfect opportunity to serve his own justice for the marine's death. When Troy gained the upper hand and was about to kill Danny, I remember holding my breath for a moment - the writers really know how to keep us on the edge of our seat! But Danny managed to fight back and our detectives came out on top. Those final scenes between Danny and Frank at Michael's funeral were incredible. We really saw the true father-son bond that the pair have. Tom and Donnie have great chemistry on screen and play that relationship out perfectly. The side story of the false information regarding Frank was also very interesting, seeing how he reacted to that situation. Frank is a great character as he shows that there is ways to get things done and sort things out without even raising your voice - a great contrast to his son. Overall a fantastic episode. If this show keeps producing stuff like this, there is no reason for it to ever end. Perfect.
